Non MCCNE Hosted Event

MCCNE members,

One of our members, Rev. Dr. Norman David is organizing and hosting a Fun Run for MCCNE members, this will be in October 2025, see the details below, and if you have any questions, please contact Rev. Dr. Norman David via phone (617) 283-1191 or email revnormandavid@gmail.com

Dear Club Members:

I propose to arrange for a weekend fun run in October but would like to know who would participate before committing a non-refundable deposit to reserve rooms and meals at the Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield, MA.  Please read my summary below and text to my phone (617-283-1191) or write to my email (revnormandavid@gmail.com) if you have questions or would like to participate.

Friday, Oct. 17:  We gather in the parking lot of the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA to depart at 10AM and caravan along state route 57 thru Southwick and Granville to lunch at the New Boston Restaurant in Sandisville, MA.  From there we travel routes 23 & 7 to Sheffield, MA to view a covered bridge and memorial to a well-documented UFO sighting back in 1961. From there we drive a mile or so to Race Brook Lodge to check into our rooms and enjoy a buffet supper.

Saturday, Oct. 18:  after breakfast served at the Lodge, we travel several miles up to Stockbridge, MA to the Guthrie Museum in a church that folk singer Arlo Guthrie purchased to preserve the. music and memory of his father, Woody Guthrie, and him.  From there we head into Stockbridge Center to visit the site of Alice’s Restaurant, made famous in the song by Arlo Guthrie back in 1967.  We’ll spend some time sauntering along the shops in this quaint Berkshire village and have lunch at the Main Street Cafe where Alice’s Restaurant was before it closed in 1979.  After lunch we visit the Norman Rockwell Museum, also in Stockbridge, to spend the afternoon before heading back to the Race Brook Lodge for supper.  Thereafter we can relax and visit at the lodge or head back into Stockbridge for live jazz at The Lion’s Den tavern underneath the posh Red Lion Inn.

Sunday, Oct. 19, after breakfast served at the Lodge, we depart for home.  The Lee, MA entrance to the Mass Pike is 20 miles (30 minutes) from the Lodge.

Cost: A room for 2 nights at Race Brook Lodge will cost about $500 and can sleep 2 (some 3 or 4).  Meals at the Lodge (2 breakfasts & 2 dinners) will cost about $160 per person, and lunches at New Boston Inn and Main Street Cafe will cost about $50 per person for both, depending upon what you order.

The room you would reserve by calling the Lodge and making a 50% deposit, which is refundable up to 14 days prior to arrival.

The Guthrie Museum is free-of-charge.  The Norman Rockwell Museum tickets are $25 or $23 if over age 60.

So that’s my proposal, folks.  If any can’t make the Friday drive from Springfield through the fall foliage of the Pioneer Valley and into the Berkshires, you can scoot up the Mass Pike to the Lee exit and catch up with us in Sheffield at the UFO memorial or Race Brook Lodge.  I can reserve a block of 12 rooms until August 17, after which any unreserved are released.  The Lodge has 29 rooms in total.  Let me know by Friday, May 8, if you’re on board for this.  Then I’ll decide whether or not to commit to this.
